Sarah Layton Therapist and Counsellor

My Approach

I embrace the humanistic belief that each of us has a unique capacity and urge to move to feeling well and healing past hurts: that it is possible, to increase our self-awareness and learn to manage ourselves through the difficult situations in our lives in a more satisfying way.

My approach is warm, responsive, encouraging and practical and I use a range of humanistic approaches and ideas including gestalt, expressive anger work, exploration of dreams and/or metaphor and formative psychology.   I will support you, as appropriate and in your own time, as you gain self-awareness, to talk about the difficult or painful things in your life and learn to express your feelings.

When working with people wishing to address their relationship with food I draw on a diet-free approach to offer practical suggestions and experiences.

 My Training and Qualifications

I am a Graduate of the Spectrum Psychotherapy Training Programme and hold the postgraduate Spectrum Certificate in Counselling and Psychotherapy.  I am an Accredited Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (MBACP Accred) and am bound and comply with the BACP Code of Ethics.

I began my work at Spectrum in 2006.  The training is rigorous and demands that the trainee be willing to work with their own issues in an ongoing and consistent way as a pre-requisite to working with others.    In 2007 I also undertook a year long training with Beyond Chocolate and, from 2007 until early 2013 ran several workshops each year introducing women to this potentially life transforming diet-free approach to creating a comfortable relationship with food and body.
